Heavy metals testing

Heavy metals testing

Me kōerero! Let's talk about something that's not quite as exciting as a delicious chocolate protein shake, but is just as important – heavy metals testing in our protein powders.

At Nice Nutrition, we're pretty big on taste. But taste is only one part of the equation. We also care about what's going into our products, how they're made and the quality checks that happen along the way.

That's why our Cacao Shake whey protein powder has been independently tested by Eurofins, an independent testing laboratory in New Zealand, for four heavy metals: arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury.

Why test for heavy metals?

Heavy metals occur naturally in the environment, including in soil, water and the foods we eat. Small amounts can find their way into agricultural ingredients and food products during growing, processing and manufacturing.

While it's not something you necessarily think about when scooping protein into your shaker, it's an important part of product quality.

Four metals we pay attention to are:

Arsenic

Cadmium

Lead

Mercury

So, how did our Cacao Shake perform?

We sent our Cacao Shake whey protein powder to Eurofins for independent laboratory testing. Here's what came back:

Heavy metal

Laboratory result

Arsenic

Below 0.05 mg/kg

Cadmium

0.080 mg/kg

Lead

0.01 mg/kg

Mercury

0.002 mg/kg

All four results showed low reported concentrations in the sample submitted for testing.

For arsenic, the result was below the laboratory's quantification limit of 0.05 mg/kg, meaning the laboratory could not reliably quantify a concentration at or above that level.

It's worth remembering that these results relate to the particular sample tested. They aren't a guarantee that every batch will have identical results, which is why ongoing quality checks are important.

Whether you're adding Cacao Shake to your morning smoothie, making a post-workout shake or whipping up something delicious in the kitchen, we want you to feel good about what you're putting into your puku.
